In our book club, we each get a turn to choose a book to share with the group. Despite my private feeling of the books-did I like it or not? – there is wisdom which can be found in its pages. Books can have heart and soul, irrepressible truth and lessons of love. I felt the desire to share some quotes from some of the books we have shared.

Something that is loved is never lost.
Beloved by Toni Morrison
Me and you, we got more yesterday than anybody. We need some kind of tomorrow.
Beloved by Toni Morrison
“I hope you’re not going to be one of those women who refuse to believe in her own talents,” said Diana.
The Last Garden in England by Julia Kelly
Each new garden is like an unread book, its pages brimming with possibility.

Once you’ve fallen in love with books, their presence can make you feel at home anywhere, even in places where you shouldn’t belong.
The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel
Remember that God’s plan for you might be different than the plan you have for yourself.
The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel
But we aren’t defined by the names we carry or the religion we practice, or the nation whose flag flies over our heads. I know that now. We’re defined by who we are in our hearts, who we choose to be on this earth.
The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel
That’s life. You’re always making decisions, taking paths that lead you away from the rest before you can see where they end. Maybe that’s why we as a species love stories so much. All those chances for do-overs, opportunities to live the lives we’ll never have.
Book Lovers by Emily Henry
A reminder that there are things in life so valuable that you must risk the pain of losing them for the joy of briefly having them.

To remain silent in the face of evil is itself a form of evil.
The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd
“God fills us with all sorts of yearnings that go against the grain of the world—but the fact those yearnings often come to nothing, well, I doubt that’s God’s doing.” She cut her eyes at me and smiled. “I think we know that’s men’s doing.”
The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd
How does one know the voice is God’s? I believed the voice bidding me to go north belonged to him, though perhaps what I really heard that day was my own impulse to freedom. Perhaps it was my own voice. Does it matter?
The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd
Home is not the country we stand in—it’s us. Home is the future we have been planning and dreaming of.
The Things We Cannot Say by Kelly Rimmer

Life doesn’t work that way, Alina. Hatred spreads – it doesn’t burn out with time. Someone needs to stand up and stop it.
The Things We Cannot Say by Kelly Rimmer
We begin our journey to freedom when we go back to the places where we were spiritually, emotionally, and mentally wounded. But this time we go with God’s presence, help, and strength. No matter how frightening and messy it feels, God invites us to trust him. The Lord does some of his most beautiful work in the midst of the messiness and brokenness of our lives.

Self-examination isn’t about being perfect. It’s about listening and responding to the Spirit. It’s about allowing God to reveal where we are hiding and resisting his love so that we can come out from hiding to receive grace and mercy and wholeness. This isn’t about beating ourselves up, and it’s not an invitation to obsessive introspection. We can’t make ourselves whole or holy. That’s the Spirit’s work. Our work is simply to cooperate with the Spirit by saying yes to God’s movement in our lives.
Sensible Shoes by Sharon Garlough Brown
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you.
Sensible Shoes by Sharon Garlough Brown
Our minds aren’t made to hold on to the particulars of pain the way we do bliss. It’s a gift God gives us, a sign of His care for us.
Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier
What you have lost will not be returned to you; it always be lost. You’re left with only your scars to mark the void. All you can choose to do is go on, or not. But if you go on, it’s knowing you carry your scars with you.
Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier
He tried to name which of the deadly seven might apply, and when he failed, he decided to append an eighth, regret.
