âLady Wisdom goes out in the street and shouts.
At the town center she makes her speech.
Proverbs 1:20-21aâ The Message.
In the middle of the traffic she takes her stand.”
I recently received a visit from Lady Wisdom.
I had participated in an evening Life Lectio class through the Wisdom Tree Collective with Laura Huff Hileman and Kasey Hitt. It was a new class, and we had the theme of Lady Wisdom.
Wisdom is a topic throughout the Bible and Lady Wisdom is mentioned in Proverbs 1:20-33. She is the personification of divine wisdom. She as wisdom actively pursues us and ââŚgoes out in the street and shoutsâ to get our attention.
The dream I had that night when I went to sleep definitely got my attention. When I woke from the dream, I felt I had received a divine gift. I was in awe. I also gained some clarity and, dare I say it? Wisdom.
My spiritual director knew I had shared dreams on my blog before and she asked if I felt it would be right to share this one.
It feels right, so here I go.

Title: Lady Wisdom VisitsÂ
It was a beautiful, sunny day at the park, and I was sitting on a bench with Lady Wisdom. She was wearing thick, cream-colored robes and I couldnât see her face, but blonde ribbons of hair peeked out. And while the robeâs material seemed heavy, it swirled in soft layers in the gentle breeze. We were close, but not touching.Â
Next to us on the grass was a huge bubble, nine feet tall and six feet wide, but it looked small compared to the large park.
When I looked in the bubble, I saw the 5-year-old little girl I used to be. She was laughing and playing with her dog, a cocker spaniel. There was such vitality and unbridled joy in the moment. This was a time in my life when I was beginning to be aware of pain and hurt in life, but I was innocent and naive at this time. I remember a passion and zest for life. There was adventure and discovery at every turn.Â
I looked away from the bubble and started thinking of the future to come for this girl. I wanted to protect her, but I knew I couldnât.
She would have to endure hardships like everyone else. I knew of the deaths of both of her grandfathers, how her elderly neighbor later died from the same cancer that took his friend, her grandfather. The blood clot that would take her grandmother away.Â
Wisdom pointed to the bubble again and I refocused my attention on the little girl. I had gotten distracted.Â
I watched her laugh and play and run. The innocence of the moment touched me. I used to be that little girl.Â
Lady Wisdom spoke, her voice both soft as velvet and jarring as it could be felt in my bones, âYou are still that young child. The vitality and unbridled joy are within.â
I must have looked incredulous for she gave a gentle laugh and there was the slight jingle of bells when she laughed. She grew serious again and I waited a moment.Â
She said, âUntie the binds which encumber you.âÂ
I remembered a Buddhist phrase just then, of how you cannot avoid pain as we live in the world, but you could avoid suffering. I didnât truly understand the phrase until that moment.Â
âYes, you understand. Well, youâre beginning to.âÂ
She started to dematerialize upward toward the heavens, and I wanted to grab her and keep her with me. âDonât go!â I cried. âPlease donât leave me!âÂ
She paused and laughed loudly. The peals of bells jangled again, some soft and beautiful while others were dissonant and jarring.Â
âWisdom is always among those who seek me.â
I woke before she had completely gone.Â

In the dream I was looking through the lens of my past, but I had the sense I was looking at myself the same way God sees me. He is full of compassion and love; I felt that love.
Our dreams have the power to offer profound encounters with wisdom and guidance, as showcased in the divine visit of Lady Wisdom. I was reminded of the power of dreams. I truly believe valuable insights can be gained through dreams and urge you to pay attention to the messages they may hold.
Embracing these encounters with an open mind can lead to personal growth and a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us.
When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, âSurely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.â
Genesis 28:16, NIV
Reflection questions:
Have you had a “divine dream” experience?
If Lady Wisdom was sitting next to you, what would you ask?
How are you seeking wisdom?
