And like an echo, God often uses the repetitive events and themes in daily life to get my attention and draw me closer to himself.”
Margaret Feinberg, The Sacred Echo: Hearing God’s Voice in Every Area of Your Life
Have you experienced a sacred echo? A moment where it seemed as if the universe was speaking directly to you, guiding you along your path. Some call it a coincidence. In my centering prayer group, one participant mentioned her “sacred echo moments”, and I loved that term. So, instead of seeing coincidences, I now see sacred echoes.
I experienced a sacred echo which transformed my faith journey. I had encountered some rejections and I was confused. I genuinely felt the calling to ministry, but nothing was transpiring. Nothing felt quite right. I was faithful that God would direct me where I needed to go, but frankly, I felt hurt and disappointed that none of my plans were coming to fruition.
I was starting to question this call. While I did not receive a sign such as a burning bush or a staff turning into a snake, I felt the confirmation several times over. Even so, I started to doubt. Maybe I was mistaken. Then the self-doubt started. Perhaps I just don’t have what it takes.
Then a friend mentioned Kasey Hitt’s newsletters. The first one I read brought to my attention the possibility of a spiritual direction certification. I felt the Holy Spirit stirring within me. It was an Ah-hah moment.
This had to just be a coincidence. A friend tells me to read something, and I have my answer? No way.
But after some time had passed, the Holy Spirit wouldn’t let the idea go. Spiritual Direction. This. Focus on this.
It felt right, so I took a leap of faith.
It was a sacred echo, a subtle whisper from the divine that resonated within my soul.
Sacred echoes call to each of us. They are gentle reminders from the universe that we are not alone and that there is a greater purpose guiding our lives. They are the signs, synchronicities, and repeated messages that appear in our daily experiences, often leaving us in awe and wonder.
These echoes can take various forms. For me, they often occur in recurring themes in conversations, books or the media I encounter.
Recognizing sacred echoes requires a heightened level of awareness and openness. The universe is speaking to us, we only need to learn to pay attention.
“The quality of life is in proportion, always, to the capacity for delight. The capacity for delight is the gift of paying attention.”
Julia Cameron
Here are possible ways to open ourselves to hearing sacred echoes:
1. Cultivate Mindfulness
Practice being fully present in the moment. Engage your senses, observe your surroundings, and listen attentively to the world around you. By cultivating mindfulness, you create space for sacred echoes to make themselves known.
2. Follow Your Intuition
Trust your instincts and inner knowing. Intuition is often the channel through which sacred echoes are received. When something feels right or resonates deeply within you, it may be a sacred echo guiding you in the right direction.
3. Keep a Journal
Document your experiences and any recurring patterns or symbols you encounter. Reflecting on your journal entries can help you identify the sacred echoes that are present in your life and gain a deeper understanding of their meanings.
4. Pay Attention to the Coincidences
When I start seeing similar themes in a variety of settings in my life, I pay attention to the message. God often speaks through friends, family or even strangers.
Sacred echoes are a gentle reminder that we are part of something much greater than ourselves. By recognizing and embracing these divine messages, we can navigate our lives with clarity, purpose, and a deep sense of connection.
When we open ourselves up to the guidance of sacred echoes, we tap into a wellspring of wisdom that can transform our lives.
So, the next time you encounter a sacred echo, listen closely, for it may hold the key to unlocking the mysteries of your journey.
“When you seek Love with all your Heart, you shall find its echoes in the universe.”
